About Us
After-School All-Stars is one of the country’s largest nonprofit organizations working to close the opportunity gap for low-income youth. Our mission is to provide year-round comprehensive programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life. Founded in 2014, our chapter reaches more than 600 students at 9 sites across Philadelphia and Camden.

Creating Green Spaces in Philly
For their Youth Advisory Board community service project, All-Stars at one elementary school are creating a green space by cleaning up and enhancing a nearby park. Students in our watershed / environmental education program were inspired by studies that demonstrate how remediating abandoned and trash-filled lots results in reduced gun violence, health benefits, and fewer crime incidents overall. The students plan to “game-ify” the cleanup process, assigning point values to different types of trash based on how long each takes to decompose. All-Stars will present the project to peers and school leadership and organize a competition to see who can do the most to improve their park’s health.

Student Spotlight: Meet Zenirah
Sixth grader Zenirah has been a dedicated member of the Youth Advisory Board this year, attending every meeting and inspiring active participation from her peers. She identified gun violence as the focus for their project and organized the park cleanup at Vare-Washington Elementary School. Zenirah embraces leadership roles in All-Stars activities; she encourages her peers, engages in thoughtful discussions, and supports other groups or projects in need. Her growth as an individual is reflected in her academic success, as well, and she’s now earning As and Bs in all her classes.

Building on our successful “All-Star Academy” model, URBN and ASAS are collaborating to launch a graphic design academy, a seven-week course focused on graphic design and digital marketing.
Did you know that less than 10 percent of our All-Stars have been to a live performance of any kind? That’s why ASAS Philadelphia & Camden is constantly working to bring the arts to our students.
URBN will invest a total of $250,000 across two years to fund the Graphic Design Academy and support other youth initiatives that align with their mission to foster creativity and opportunity in the next generation.
