Philadelphia & Camden student explores wildlife in watershed program

Program Highlight: Watershed Education

Students at the Philadelphia & Camden chapter are exploring hands-on environmental education through our growing watershed program. What started with one staff member has expanded into a dedicated four-person team, delivering a robust curriculum that helps students understand science, conservation, and the importance of water.

Since 2022, the program has evolved from 11 lessons to a four-unit, 42-lesson curriculum—now available for ASAS sites nationwide. Students engage in paddling trips with Discovery Pathways, live animal workshops from Adventure Aquarium, and special lessons from Fairmount Water Works, making learning immersive and exciting.

In addition to student learning, ASAS provides watershed-focused professional development for staff, ensuring the program’s impact extends beyond the classroom. With experiential learning and community partnerships, ASAS is empowering students to become environmental stewards for the future.
