To encourage students to embrace reading, ASAS San Antonio launched Reading Bucks—a creative incentive program where students earn rewards for every book they read. Students collect Reading Bucks—worth $10 each—to spend in a student-run store stocked with fun prizes. They can earn them through independent reading, reading aloud to younger peers, or participating in group discussions.
The impact is more than just words on a page. After reading How to Catch a Class Pet, students were so inspired that they built a miniature school out of cardboard and construction paper, recreated the story with Legos, and fully brought the book to life.
By making reading interactive, rewarding, and imaginative, Reading Bucks is helping students develop a lifelong love for books—and the confidence to dream big.
