Youth Voice Week students advocate for after-school

Youth Voice Week

As many of you know, March 24-28 is Youth Voice Week. We took the opportunity to look at a few amazing stories of students advocating for after-school and making their voices heard.

In Los Angeles, ASAS students that are part of Teens Advocating for Civic Action (TACA), participated in the 21st Annual California Afterschool & Summer Challenge in Sacramento. These students were part of over 400 advocates from across the state to advocate for the importance of out-of-school time programs. Francisco and Ashley had the vital role of emceeing the rally, where they got to share their personal stories and why after-school is so important to them. Check out the LA recap video!

Orlando, Tampa Bay and South Florida All-Stars traveled to Tallahassee to share and advocate on behalf of their programs. These student leaders were able to meet with state representatives, learn about the legislative process, hold discussions about civic service, and observe a live session. Twins from our Orlando chapter, Jacob and Jeremiah, had the special opportunity of serving as pages on the House floor for the entire week. They worked in a small group to create a bill and see it passed in the House of Representatives. Congratulations also to Athena from the South Florida chapter on earning a summer internship with Representative Busatta.

There’s no better way to wrap up a powerful highlight than with direct quotes from the students themselves. May we continue to support and uplift these voices with every chance that we get.
